In Memoriam-Honor Page

Many of you read or heard about what happened to Roo. We started talking about a Roo fund or a Roo memorial page and then a friend passed away and his family wanted his friends and their family to make donations to the rescue instead of giving them flowers.  So to honor those who have passed away or those who are still living but have made an impact on your life we I have decided to make a memoriam/in honor page for anyone wanting to make a donation in honor or memory of a loved one– whether it have 2 legs or 4.  Click HERE to go to our In Honor-Memory page.

This page is great for any special occasions where you would like to send gift donations to help Almost Home NM.  We can send out cards to anyone who you wish to recognize and they can get a brick put up on the page in their honor.  Just send us an email..

Media Stories

I want to thank all the internet, television, and radio outlets that have done stories on us!!!  Without their attention nobody would know who we are or what we do!!  So a heartfelt thank you goes out to all the media personnel who have done stories on us and our dogs!!

Channel 7 has done quite a bit of media on our dogs— first with Cupcake and even a follow up story and recently they followed our little guy Frankie’s healing and adoption progress– with one of their own staff members being the adopter!!! They have always proven very rescue friendly — so we have to love and thank Channel 7 for everything they have done to help rescues!!!!

We also love our good friend Sunny Ares— we always have our disagreements, of course what friends don’t, however we always come to the same conclusion– that Pit Bulls get a bad rap and how important it is for the media and rescue to work together to help these misunderstood babies!!

Recently Sunny came out and video taped us working with a couple of our dogs who had come in from a starvation case.  She was here to watch and tape the first part of their rehabilitation process in dealing with food aggression.  Me and the girls have dealt with problem dogs before and never recommend the public trying this stuff themselves— we always recommend they hire a professional that is very experienced in dealing with problem behaviors (Custom K9 Performance is our trainer of choice).

The other day we did a follow up to that story with what has happened to our boys Magnum, Ruger, and Spankey and Sunny also surprised us with a Pit bull video showing the girls when they were very young and we were volunteering at the local shelter doing their photos for the internet (this time spent at that shelter really showed us the love pit bulls really hold in their hearts for people) and it also shows some of the dogs who have found homes through Almost Home NM— I really loved watching this video and think you will too!!!  We are very happy to now be on 575 magazine with some of our dogs and thank them to no end for having us on their show and really promoting rescue animals!!  It is great to know they are sooo rescue friendly!!!!  Take a look your dog might be on there!!!

UPDATES!!

Cassidy– Adopted!!!!

Sweetie– is one of our newest special needs dogs. She came in on 5/27/2011 weighing in at 27.6 lbs and she had huge pressure sores on her bumm that went to the bone. She has been one of our most difficult rescues with everything wrong with her. When Animal Control called us we were hesitant knowing we were going to be putting Cassidy through an expensive surgery– however, we offered to go see her and take pictures in hopes another rescue would help her.  After seeing her though—so skinny and in such bad shape yet still wagging her tail and trying with her last ounce of strength to show us love we could not turn our backs on her. I figured we would deal with the finances when it came up. She has now been with us for just over a month and is doing great though she does have life long health issues.  She tested positive for Ehrlichea, Heartworms, diagnosed with Diabetes, has food allergies, and is losing her vision as well.

Through it all she still has love for everyone she has met and shows it with tail wags and a head in your lap. We would love help with her care– please consider a donation to help us help Sweetie and dogs like her that need rescue so desperately.  Please remember she is also looking for her forever home. More pictures of both of these girls and all the pictures showing Sweeties recovery  can be found on our FB page.
